What a Key Point Means

In pattern dance, a key point is a named part of a required section that the technical panel watches closely. It usually combines step accuracy, edge quality, turn type, timing, hold, and placement.

Why Key Points Matter

A team can skate with strong speed and style but still lose level credit if a required key point is not clean. That is why study clips are most useful when you watch the footwork and the music count together.

How to Study One

Start with the chart, identify the exact steps being checked, then replay several teams at the same section. Look for clean entry edge, correct turn, uninterrupted flow, and whether both partners finish the section on time.
